Project Description

The project's main objectives are to

  • evaluate Sub-Saharan African countries' potential to contribute to the Kyoto objectives and the promotion and co-operation enhancement through dialogues between target region stakeholders and selected EU market actors and decision makers
  • identify an appropriate framework enabling CDM-linked investment flows to the Sub-Saharan African countries
  • create a methodology to assess social and economic impactes of CDM-linked projects and to check benefits consistency with sustainable development priorities of the Sub-Saharan countries and investor interests
  • estimate the potential contribution of CDM in Sub-Saharan African countries to European Kyoto Protocol commitments and to provide a cost-benefit analysis for CDM in those countries
  • give European decision-makers a valuable instrument to chose between domestic policies and measures, Joint Implementation, Emissions Trading or Clean Development Mechanisms for commitments
  • contribute to a mapping of best geographical areas for EU CDM investments in Sub-Saharan Africa
  • identify CDM-linked project development opportunities for environmental, social and economic feasibility studies in one Sahelian country (Niger)

 

The project is divided in Phase and Work packages (them in Tasks), as follows:
